Animation and music videos
In the previous editions of Animacam we received a lot of music videos, and this year we are not falling behind. Using animation techniques in music videos is not uncommon, and today we invite you to take a look at some of them made by international bands of first level. Later on you will also be able to take a look at all those music videos we received in this edition of the festival.
Coldplay – Hurts Like Heaven
In 2012 Coldplay released this animated video for the song Hurts Like Heaven that can be found on their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto. The video introduces us to an animated comic that tells the story of the two characters that give the album its name.
Radiohead – Burn The Witch
This year, the British band Radiohead announced their new album by mysterious teaser of a bird animated by stop motion in their Instagram account. This teaser was a preview of the first music video of the band’s new album, made for the song Burn The Witch. Employing a naive aesthetic, the video tells a dark story that refers to the 1973 film “The Wicker Man”.
Daft Punk – One More Time
French electronic duo Daft Punk also turned to animation for the music video of their most famous song, released in 2001 in an album called Discovery. In the video of One More Time we can find some cartoons that imitate the aesthetics of Japanese animation.
Gorillaz – Clint Eastwood
The British band formed by Damon Albarn, who is also the singer of Blur, and Jamie Hewlett frequently resorts to the animation in their music videos. Although Gorillaz are technically only a duo, Albarn and Hewlett created a series of characters in 2D that are the ones we used to find on both the covers of their albums and their music videos.
Queens Of The Stone Age – …Like Clockwork
The American rock band Queens Of The Stone Age accompanied the release of their last album with an animated short film made by Boneface, the same artist who signed the cover of the album. In this 15 minute video we are told a dark and very peculiar story while we listen to fragments of several of the songs featured on the album.
Verona Riots – Live For The Moment
To finish we propose you to have a look at this nice stop motion video made for the song Live For The Moment of the indie-pop band of Dublin called Verona Riots, from which we can see the secrets of its realization through this video of the making off .
