Animation is not just for kids: Rick & Morty
There is a topic that animation is an audiovisual genre mainly intended for a children’s audience, and yet throughout history there have been numerous examples that this does not have to be so. Without further afield, on today’s television, leaving aside already well-known cases such as The Simpsons or Father of Family, we can find several series designed for an adult or youthful audience that are gaining much popularity in recent years. Today we are going to talk about Rick & Morty.
Animation for an adult audience
This TV series is defined by being characterized by irreverent characters, alcoholics, some plots in which travel takes place in time, multiple universes, in which we find extraterrestrials, elements that we have already already seen in other series to ” Adults “as Family Guy or American Dad, but when it all comes together we are faced with an explosive combo of impossible and shameless situations, which make a smile to everyone as much for the irony and the touches of intelligent humor as for the rudeness direct and eschatological. All this usually comes with a good dose of references to popular culture.
The series stars Rick, who is the grandfather of the family, used to be drunk, but he is also the smartest of them all. Rick takes as his apprentice to his grandson, Morty, who must endure all sorts of events at his side. Through these random adventures, you will discover a little Rick’s personality, and all the nuances he really has outside the first impression.
Humor with background in episodes of 20 minutes
The chapters of Rick & Morty last 20 minutes, and the series has two seasons with 11 and 10 chapters respectively and the third one will begin to air soon. While each episode tells a different adventure with a similar structure (they are on the earth – something related to the multiple universes happens – returns everything to “normality”), they should not be seen independently because the history of all the characters is spinning chapter by chapter, so it can not be said that Rick & Morty is a series of completely selfconclusive episodes as could be The Simpsons, which have been stuck in the same time limbo since they were created, in Rick & Morty there is evolution, and throughout its two seasons can be perceived a series of recurring themes and a well defined own philosophy.
